UPDATE: USDA FREE MEAL PROGRAM AT LIBERTY
The USDA's COVID-19 free feeding program that will run until Dec. 31, or until funding runs out, has been modified so that Liberty is a free meal site only for its enrolled students. In other words, only students enrolled at Liberty, K-12, are eligible for Liberty's free lunches. ALL Liberty students will receive FREE lunches now until our Christmas break begins on Friday, Dec. 18, or as long as funding continues. Liberty kindergarten parents can pick up free lunches from our café between 10:45-11:15 am, Monday-Friday. Due to strict social-distancing protocols, no one can enter the school for meal pickup. Therefore, kindergarten parents must park their cars in the parking lot and walk to the back of the school where there will be signs on the door being used to distribute meals. Please Note: No lunches will be available during the school’s October break (Oct. 1-18) and Thanksgiving break, Nov. 23-29. Liberty Charter School is an equal opportunity provider.

Hello Parents – Here are some updates regarding our school lunch program:

n  In the midst of school going to remote learning and then finishing the year being able to pick up free meals daily, please remember that prior to end of this school year, students’ lunchroom accounts need to be current. If students had a balance owed prior to us going to remote learning, please go to www.myschoolbucks.com to bring them current, or drop off a check or cash at the lunchroom or front office. If you’d like to review the meal plan charge policy, go to www.libertycharterschool.com to the School Lunch Menu/Account Info tab. Policies are also listed under the school policies tab. If you have questions or concerns, please call the food services director at 208-466-7952 and press “3” for the lunchroom. Please know, too, that annually Mrs. Stallcop creates a personal lunchroom fund she uses throughout the year to help ensure no child is without a lunch. Thank you.

n  Our school was able to receive a waiver from the State Department of Education allowing us to keep our meal prices the same going into the 2020-2021 school year. Therefore, prices for 2020-2021 will be:

  • Grades 1-6:  $2.25
  • Grades 7-12:  $2.50
  • Adults:  $3.95
  • Milk: $.40

n  Free and Reduced Price Applications will be available online as of July 5, 2020. We encourage all parents who think they might qualify to complete and submit the application. Doing so not only ensures children receive healthy school lunches within their family’s budget, but the overall percentage of students who qualify also determines the Title IA funding the school receives yearly, which is used to provide daily, additional learning time between teachers and students. All personal family information included in the application is kept confidential so that only the food services director receives information regarding a family’s eligibility – in other words, information contained in a family’s application is not shared beyond it being received by the food services director. To complete the application online, go to http://libertycharter.schoollunchapp.com.

Hello Liberty Parents – Barely a little more than a week left until the end of this school year! Therefore, just wanted to be sure to remind you of the following dates and goings-on:
Monday, June 8: Last Monday packet pick-up day. This will be the last Monday packet pick-up day. K-8 students will need to return their completed packets on Thursday, June 11.
Thursday, June 11: Last meal pick-up day, Monday packet return, returning of books. This will be our last meal pick-up day, so you’ll want to be sure to come by because not only will the meals be awesome, but all of our teachers will be greeting students while dancing to Mrs. Stallcop’s favorite playlist – our COVID-19 version of the annual, last-day-of-school teacher talent show!
K-8 students will return their completed Monday packets this day.
Also, on June 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., K-8 students can start dropping off their library books, grade-level books, and other grade-level materials if they need to be returned. High school students can drop off their textbooks starting this day too. Grade-level boxes (or boxes by content area for high schoolers) will be outside in front of the school in which to put books and materials. An EA will be there to assist. [If your high schooler is taking a dual-enrollment class at Victory, he or she will need to return the book for that class to Victory.]
Friday, June 12: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!! -- and last day for returning K-8 library books and grade-level books/materials, and high school textbooks. Again, grade-level boxes (or boxes by content area for high schoolers) will be outside in front of the school in which to put books and materials. An EA will be there to assist. [If your high schooler is taking a dual-enrollment class at Victory, he or she will need to return the book for that class to Victory.]
June 15 & 16: Computer device return. From 9 am-3 pm, those students with checked-out devices from the school that they’ve been using for remote learning will need to return them along with their completed paperwork.
Monday, August 10: First day of the 2020-2021 school year! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back at school! Until then, we will keep you aware of any updates or modifications to help us all prepare for our return.

Liberty Charter School COVID 19 Protocols for Summer Sports Programs:
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is extremely contagious and is believed to spread mainly from person-to-person contact. As a result, federal, state, and local governments, and federal and state health agencies recommend social distancing and have, in many locations, prohibited the congregation of groups of people.
Liberty Charter School (LCS) has put in place protective measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19; however, LCS cannot guarantee that you or your child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19. Further, attending activities on the LCS campus could increase your risk and your child(ren)’s risk of contracting COVID-19. In order for your child(ren) to participate in LCS summer activities either on the LCS campus or elsewhere, the document below must be completed and signed by a parent(s) and child(ren) of LCS before the student is allowed to participate in any LCS voluntary summer activities. The signed form can be turned in to either a coach or the Athletic Director.

We’ve been receiving calls from many of you asking what our plans will be for school come fall. Please know we have every intention to return to our normal classroom setting beginning the first day of school on Monday, August 10.  As we review updated CDC figures showing those who are most affected by COVID-19, it continues to show older people (i.e., those over 60); and those with underlying medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer) as being most at-risk. If these figures remain constant, and the CDC, Southwest District Health, and the State Department of Education keep the current guidelines and requirements in place for schools, we are confident we will be able to provide a safe and healthy school building environment for students, teachers, and staff to return to in August. As a result, we’re already looking forward to our first day of school, and we haven’t even begun summer! We will keep you posted as we get closer to August 10 in case we are required to deviate from this plan, or if we will be required to have any special protocols in place in order to return to school in our building. Until then, let’s finish this year strong while gearing up for a much-deserved summer!

Hello Parents – Just a reminder that there is no school this Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. As a result, meal pick-up service will not be available on Monday, but will resume Tuesday, May 26, and K-8 take-home packets will be distributed Tuesday instead of Monday.

Take care, and have a safe holiday.

May 6, 2020

Dear Parents –

Like you, we were hopeful at some point this spring we would be back in our classrooms with your students finishing what has been a remarkable year. Unfortunately, that will not be the case.
In order to stay in step with the State’s Stay Healthy Order, we will continue remote learning through the end of the 2019-2020 schoolyear. The following information and dates will be helpful as we finish up:

  • Teachers will continue to provide Monday take-home packets. Since Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day, take-home packets that week will be distributed on Tuesday, May 26.
  • June 8 is the last day take-home packets will be distributed.
  • Teachers will continue to produce weekly videos for at-home learning until June 11.
  • The last day of school is June 12. [Seniors’ last day is June 5. Mrs. Larson will notify the high school students of their finals schedule soon.]
  • The last day for school breakfast and lunch pick-up is Thursday, June 11. It continues to make our day when we see your students at this time, so please keep coming!

Thank you for all you’re doing to keep your children’s learning intact. We understand how difficult this has been for you at times, but we’ve also seen and heard about the remarkable efforts and commitment you’ve made to your children and their continued academic success. Partnering with you in this manner at this unbelievable time has been an honor. We will continue to do all we can to make the next few weeks manageable and worthwhile so that your students come back in August without missing a beat in their education.

Good Afternoon Parents – If you have yet to pick up your students’ desk supplies and other items, such as their PE shoes, you may do so this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. If you come before or after this timeframe, there will be no school staff available to help you retrieve your students’ belongings.
To retrieve student supplies, just drive up to the front of the school where an employee runner will retrieve them from inside the building and bring to your car. Thank you for following our guidelines of no entry into the school. Our purpose in doing so is to ensure everyone’s health and safety while keeping the school clean and sanitized.
Thank you.

Gracias.

Hello Liberty Parents,
Great News! Beginning this Friday, April 24, our Friday pick-up meals will also include breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday for students and siblings, ages 1-18! So, for example, if you’re picking up meals for three children on Friday, you also will receive breakfast and lunch for each of them for Saturday and Sunday.
Directions for reheating will be included in the weekend meals as hot meals will be on the menu those days as well. Lunch entrees will come with a milk and either a fruit, veggie, chips or cookies. Breakfast comes with a box of cereal or a cereal bar, fruit and milk.

Remember, the meals are free for all students and siblings, ages 1-18. Meals can be picked up Monday-Friday from 10:30 am to Noon while supplies last. Children do NOT need to be with you in order to receive their meals. If you’re unable to pick up the meals, your students can pick them up if they can safely walk, or ride their bikes, scooters or skateboards to school, and you have given them permission to do so.

We’re thankful to our café manager and staff for extending the free meals to the weekend. This is an additional offering they’re thrilled to provide as we’ve heard over and over again what a great help these meals are to so many of our families.

We look forward to continuing to see you and your students at meal pick-up time!

Take care,

Hola padres

Hello Parents of K-8 Students –

As we end this first week of remote learning and move into the next, I want to thank you – I couldn’t be prouder of the partnership between our teachers and parents! What is occurring to help keep Harbor learning happening remotely is amazing. Everyone’s efforts are appreciated.

Here are a few reminders as we go into week two:

n  We have carefully sterilized the school and packed up students’ desks, placing their personal items in individual bags, along with other items they will need going forward. (School employees have worn masks and gloves, and followed other health protocols in order to do this work safely.) Beginning Monday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to Noon, parents may pick up their students’ bags by driving up to the front of the school where an employee runner will retrieve them from inside the school building and bring to your car. Thank you for following these strict guidelines of no entry into the school. Our purpose in doing so is to ensure everyone’s health and safety while keeping the school clean and sanitized.

n  If your child’s teacher has communicated with you that he or she will have learning packets to pick up at the school, those packets will continue to be distributed outside of the school building with the help of a school aide. Therefore, you will not enter the school building to receive your child’s packet.

n  The free meal pick up for students and siblings, ages 1-18, has been great! Keep coming by to pick up their breakfasts & lunches and to say ‘hi. We appreciate being able to stay connected in this way with parents and students. The pick-up time for meals is 10:30 am to Noon, Monday-Friday. Again, please stay in your car (and please have children remain in your car as well). We will bring the meals to you. Students and siblings do not have to be with you in order to pick up their meals. The meals are to be taken and not consumed on site. If students have your permission, they can walk, or ride their bikes, scooters, or skateboards to school to pick up meals.

We wish more than anything that the school was full of students and teachers going about their normal routine. But until that time returns, we will embrace this altered learning approach and make it the best it can be for students.

Thank you, and continue to stay safe and well.

Hello Parents of Our K-8 Students–

As we begin this first week in our distance learning format, there are a few items in which we need to be mindful to ensure the health and safety of our school community:

n  If your child’s teacher has communicated with you that he or she will have learning packets for you to pick up at the school, please note that the packets will be distributed to you outside of the school building with the help of a school aide. Therefore, you will not enter the school building to receive your child’s packet.

n  The same will occur for picking up student and sibling free breakfast and lunch combo, take-with-you meals. The pick-up time for the meals is 10:30 am to Noon, Monday-Friday. Please stay in your car (and please ensure any children with you remain in your car as well). When you are greeted by a school employee or principal, let them know the number of meals you need for your student(s) and siblings, ages 1-18, and he or she will retrieve them for you. (There might be a line, so please be patient with the school employee as he or she works to take care of each and every one of you.)

The above items will keep physical contact with each other to a minimum and within the parameters of Idaho’s Stay-Home Order, especially ensuring no one enters the school building, unless approved to do so.

Please know, too, that during this first week back we will carefully sterilize the school and pack up your student’s desk, placing their personal items in individual bags, along with other items they will need for week two and beyond. (School employees will wear masks and gloves to do this work.) Beginning Monday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to Noon, parents may pick up their student’s bag by driving up to the front of the school with an employee runner then retrieving your student’s bag from the school building and bringing it to your car.

Thank you for understanding the need to follow these strict guidelines of no entry into the school during this unprecedented time. Our purpose in doing so is to ensure everyone’s health and safety while also ensuring our school is clean, safe, and ready to go for when (hopefully) the Stay-Home Order is lifted.

There is nothing my teachers and I want more than to be in the classrooms with your students. It has been especially hard for us to accept that this won’t be the case come tomorrow. However, if we are diligent in following the items above, adhering to the State’s Stay-Home Order, and doing our best to provide your students with a positive, distance-learning experience we hope we’ll be together again sooner rather than later.

Thank you, and please keep watching your emails for continued communications.
Stay safe and well,

Mantente seguro y bien

Hello Parents of High Schoolers –

Here's a housekeeping item regarding high school student lockers:

This Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (April 8-10) from 8am to noon, the school will be open for high school students only to come by and collect needed items from their lockers. There will be hand sanitizer at the front desk that students must use before they head back to the high school side of the building. Students must wear something to cover their nose and mouth (for instance, scarf or handkerchief) for when they enter the building. They will go directly to their locker (using social distancing), gather the items they need, and then leave. Some high school teachers may have additional supplies for their students to pick up. They will let their students know through Schoology.

Parents, you and your students have been amazing. Thank you for being flexible with us as we prepare for “a new normal” for the time being in our educating your students. We’ll keep you and your students updated via email, Schoology, and on the school website under the COVID-19 tab, so be sure to keep checking these communication avenues.

Thank you, and please continue to take care of yourselves and those around you.

Dear K-8 Parents – Hopefully, you all have had a chance to review the letter sent last Wednesday (below), but just to be safe, we’re sending it again with a reminder to be on the look-out for an email from child’s teacher this Wednesday, April 8.

Thank you.

March 31, 2020

Hello Parents of our Kindergarten through 8th Grade Students,

While we don’t want to inundate you with communications during spring break, we do want to keep you informed as we know COVID-19 is presenting all of us with challenges we need to plan for sooner rather than later. This note is to provide an update on where we’re heading in educating your students come Monday, April 13.

As we shared in the March 25 parent letter, we will employ distance learning beginning April 13. We are anticipating that distance learning will continue until the end of April. Thank you, again, for responding so quickly with information regarding your home wifi connectivity and availability of devices.

First, to hopefully help put your minds at ease, students will not be required to spend countless hours a day on a device, and their lessons will not be “live.” In other words, your family should not need multiple devices in the home in order for your students to “attend school.” As a result, we will not need to provide a device for each student. However, for those who have shared that they have no devices at home, one will be provided. Our teachers are working incredibly hard preparing video lessons that can be watched at a times that work well for your family and takes into account more than one student in the home, and breaks them up in such a way that no student is sitting through lengthy lessons. Much like their regular classroom, your students at-home learning will be broken up into short, learning chunks.

All total, K-8 students will have no more than 1-hour of videos to view per day. The videos will be coupled with assignments and homework that can be completed either on a device, or off it. For those who have shared with us that they have no wifi connectivity, you will be contacted (if you haven’t already) to arrange an alternative educational approach. Some grades might have take-home packets with lessons and activities. If take-home packets are used, please know extra precautions in preparing them will be in place, including gloves being used to assemble the packets and separation of the packets for at least 48 hours when they are returned, among other safety measures.

Generally, for grades K-8, a distance learning day will look like this: Video lessons for math, language, reading, and science (videos for math lessons will be posted Monday-Thursday; language, reading and science videos will be posted one day per week); assignments/homework similar to what they already do; a weekly assessment in math on Friday; and optional, additional learning activities for those families interested. The beautiful thing about posting videos, rather than hosting “live” learning sessions, is your students can watch their videos and review them as they’d like, or as needed. This approach takes our philosophy of, “If you don’t get it today, you’ll get it tomorrow; if not tomorrow, then the next day, and so on…” and puts it into play in this distance learning format. We know you’ll be surprised, if not amazed, watching your child’s ability to continue to learn in the manner to which they’re accustomed (direct instruction/choral response), even in this video format. In fact, please encourage them to respond as they would if they were in class with their peers. We have no doubt you will be impressed at the pace of each lesson and the way in which your students respond. We hope it will provide you with what many parents say to us so often: that they wish they had a front-row seat to their child’s school day. Come April 13, you will be involved in way that perhaps you haven’t before by “attending” the videos with your children and being right there to encourage them as they work through a lesson.

Important things to know:

n  One of the most important things we want you to know is you will not have to present the lessons yourselves, or know the content before your children view their videos or work on their assignments/homework. In fact, in the videos teachers will use the “Think Aloud” method whereby they will think out loud the concept being taught from start to finish so that their students can follow along with them as they work it through to completion. The teachers are going to great lengths to plan and present an at-home learning experience that is as close to their students’ regular school day, but also manageable for a family.

n  Technology will be less than perfect. We understand and know that there will be technology glitches. Your home connectivity might be fine one day and struggle the next. The learning platform we’ll be using might be slow one day, no response on another day, and fine the next. Please know we will work with you on technology issues. The numbers of school districts globally now forced to use an online form of education is staggering, so all schools and students will have issues at some point.

n  On April 8, you will receive an email from your child’s teacher (if you have multiple students attending our school, you will receive an email from each of your children’s teachers), sharing their expectations for their students, and detailing their educational plans for their class while providing you with your students’ log-in information into Schoology, the learning platform to be used. While a fairly straight-forward, simple platform, the teachers will include in their letters a link to an online tutorial for you to view to familiarize yourselves with Schoology, if you’re not already. Additionally, teachers will share the process for contacting them if you or your student is experiencing technical issues, how attendance will be taken, what will be graded, how to turn in homework and assignments, their teacher contact hours should you need to reach them, and how they will contact you if/when necessary.

n  Our school district has been approved as a site for picking up free meals beginning April 13. Free, cold breakfast and lunch combo meals for students and their siblings, ages 1-18, will be available daily for curbside pickup at the school between 10:30 am –Noon while supplies last. The meals are to be taken and not consumed on site.

n  The first day back to school, but in this distance learning format, is Monday, April 13.

We continue to thank you for your support and willingness, using a phrase that works well with Harbor, to venture through these unchartered waters with us. As a Harbor school, your students have already been learning and achieving at an incredible pace in an educational environment that provides above-grade learning in a safe and kind culture. We know their learning will continue and that they will do their best to adapt to this temporary school format.

We can’t wait to be back with your students in the school building. Until then, thank you for partnering with us to help ensure that they continue to excel. We will, in the days and weeks ahead, do our best to be our very best for your students, and we’ll address issues that might come up with flexibility and positivity so we can model to them how to face tough situations well.

Above everything, please take care of yourselves, your children, and all those around you. We look forward to hearing your students’ stories of success once we’re back together.

All our best to you and your students,

Parents – Thank you for your quick replies to the email yesterday, March 24, regarding your home WIFI access. We’re receiving good information from you that is greatly helping us put in place what we now know will be the need to use remote learning our first week back from spring break, April 13-17.
More details will be coming regarding the approaches we’ll use April 13-17 so you and your students can prepare. If you’ve yet to reply to yesterday’s email, please do so as soon as possible, letting us know if you do not have  WIFI access, and if you will have challenges in providing devices (i.e., PCs, laptops, etc.) for your students to use at home. Although, we have access to limited devices, we will try our best to provide those with no devices. Once this information is collected we will be able to determine the best arrangements for offering school attendance options to ensure our students are learning in the most effective ways possible.
Also, for April 13-17, free, cold-lunch combo meals for students and their siblings, ages 1-18, will be available daily for curbside pickup at the school between 10:30 am –Noon while supplies last. The meals are to be taken and not consumed on site. Children must be present to receive a free meal.
If you know of parents who might not be receiving these emails for some reason, please let us know, so we can contact them another way, or please ask them to call the school office. We want to make sure everyone is receiving these updates. The way in which our school community is coming together has been incredible and we appreciate all our efforts in helping each other. Thank you for your ongoing support.
We will keep updating you as we approach April 13, and we will be working with families individually as necessary to ensure all our students have access to their education that week. Please keep checking your email inbox, the school website and Facebook for information.
We continue to stay positive in our hopes you all are well and that tomorrow, the first day of spring break, is one you can enjoy among the uncertainties.

Parent Letter 3-24-2020
Hello Liberty Parents – we wanted to touch base with you before we technically begin our scheduled spring break, which runs from March 26-April 10.

As we continue to work to stay ahead of the COVID-19 curve while following the directives by health officials, our Governor, and the State Board of Education, we are committed to maintaining our high standards of education and safety for your students. Realizing this might require an online component, depending on where things stand in a couple of weeks, we want to be as prepared as possible.

Therefore, we need your assistance by providing the following information to us as soon as possible:

If you do not have WIFI access at home, please reply to office@libertycharterschool.com saying so, making sure to include the names and grades of your students attending our school. While our teachers have a pretty good idea of which families might be without WIFI service, we want to do our best to confirm the information. Thank you for your quick replies.

We will remain in contact with you over spring break, so please be sure to check email often, as well as the school’s website and social media.

Take care and stay well,

Online Instruction Info for High School Students and Parents 3-17-2020

High School Parents,
included below is what your student(s) have been instructed to do from their teachers for online instruction. If your student has problems getting into Schoology please email their teacher or the high school office at hsoffice@libertycharterschool.com Their usernames are the same as their PowerSchool ids and passwords are lcs2020 unless they have changed them.

High School Students,
You must log in to Schoology and work on something for each class each day and complete assignments as instructed by 5 p.m. This is how you are getting credit and attendance. You must email teachers if you need help with a class code.

It is imperative that we do this to avoid make-up days.

Contact teachers or leave a message with your high school if the need arises.

Stay well!
Coronavirus Parent Letter - Shut down  3-16-2020

March 16, 2020

Liberty Charter closed March 17-April 10 for K-8; high school students to attend classes online March 17-25.

To continue our efforts in being overly cautious while best serving our students, staff and families, the school will be closed beginning tomorrow, March 17, for its K-8 students and will remain closed through Friday, April 10.

For our high school students (9th-12th grade), they will attend classes online March 17-25, with spring break beginning March 26 through April 10. This means their classes will be online this Tuesday-Friday (March 17-20), and next Monday-Wednesday (March 23-25). High school teachers worked with their students today to help prepare them for this change. High school teachers will be available to their students the remainder of this week and next Monday-Wednesday via Schoology and email each school day. The high school teachers are providing an educational alternative for those students who do not have access to online learning from home.

All athletics and activities, including practices, have been suspended until at least April 6.

Limited staff will be at the school March 17-20 and March 23-25 for parents and students to pick up personal belongings, etc.
While the school is closed, please continue practicing social distancing, practicing sound personal hygiene and following the latest guidance from the CDC and Southwest District Health.

Thank you and continue to take care. See you all back on April 13.
